Where To Find a Financial Advisor?

Finding the right financial advisor can feel overwhelming, but there are several trusted organizations and networks that make the process easier - especially if you're looking for someone with specific credentials, standards, or fee structures.

✅ CFP Board – Find a CFP® Professional

This site lists Certified Financial Planner™ professionals. Advisors listed here may follow either the fiduciary standard or the suitability standard, so it’s worth asking how they operate. You can filter by ZIP code, services offered, compensation model, and more.

✅ FPA – PlannerSearch

Similar to the CFP Board, to be listed on this FPA PlannerSearch directory, you must be a CFP® professional. It's a good tool to find someone aligned with your specific planning needs as it allows you to search by specialty and location.

✅ NAPFA – Find an Advisor

NAPFA advisors are fee-only and are required to act as fiduciaries 100% of the time. You can filter results to find someone based on location, expertise, and services offered.

✅ XY Planning Network – XYPN Directory

XYPN also lists fee-only fiduciary advisors, but with a focus on helping Gen X and Gen Y clients. If you're younger or earlier in your financial journey, this may be a great place to start.

✅ Garrett Planning Network – Find a Planner

Garrett advisors provide services on an hourly basis, which can be helpful for those looking for one-time or short-term financial advice. All advisors are CFP® professionals and fiduciaries.

✅ Foundation for Financial Planning – Pro Bono Financial Advice

This non-profit connects people in need with free (pro bono) financial advice. If you or someone you know is unable to afford professional financial help, this is a fantastic resource. Some cities and states also have local non-profits that offer similar support.

✅ Classic Google or AI Search

Searching something like “financial advisor near me” or “financial advisor for small business owners” can help surface local options. This is how many people find financial advisors - exploring Google, Yelp, and other online reviews. Use these platforms to see how others have experienced working with them. But don’t stop there - take time to explore their website and come prepared with thoughtful questions to ensure they’re a good fit:

  • Review their fee structure and service model
  • Read what they’ve written or spoken about
  • Schedule a meeting to assess fit
  • Confirm their fiduciary status
  • ✅ Friends, Family & Referrals

Referrals from trusted friends or family can be helpful, but they aren’t always the best fit for your needs. Be sure to do your own due diligence before moving forward.

    👀 What Caught My Eye

Did you know there’s only a 3% chance of being a twin? Each August, Twinsburg, Ohio, hosts a Twins Festival - a celebration full of events, parades, and more for twins and non-twins alike.

I attended several years ago with my own twin brother. It was surreal being surrounded by thousands of twins (many identical) of all ages. If you ever get the chance to go, I highly recommend it - it's unlike anything else.

“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning.” - Pelé
